Prize Winner, October 2002
Maureen Baker,
South-eastern Pennsylvania
Congratulations to our prize winner Maureen Baker from
Pennsylvania. Maureen has three children and eleven
grandchildren. Maureen who was raised in Pennsylvania
works for a county Galway man named T. J. Higgins, and
the founder of our own company Higgins and Company (Since 1820) was P.J.
Higgins from county Mayo, what a small world.
Maureen works for Thomas J. Higgins, a realtor who is a
RE/MAX agent. Maureen has been to Ireland four times.
Once she travelled on a bus tour which toured the 26
counties. Once she travelled to Belfast by herself for
ten days. Another time she took a car trip with a friend
where they drove around the country again; and the last
time she spent 10 days staying in Dunlaoghaire and
travelling the east coast by rail by herself. Maureen is
looking forward to her retirement, which will be coming
up in a few years time.
Maureen enjoys all her community work and is one very
busy lady. Of recent engagements Maureen writes. "Last
night I went to a reception at the Philadelphia Irish
Centre for Mary Coughlan, Minister of Family, Community
and Health in Ireland. She was lovely and she is in
Philadelphia to meet with the Irish Immigration and
Pastoral Centre and others. The Federation of Irish
American Societies, of which I am a member, supports the
Irish Immigration Centre. I am the president of the
local chapter of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians,
and a member of the County LAOH Board. I have a busy and
happy life."
From all the staff at Higgins and Company (Since 1820) in Ireland we
wish Maureen and her family continued joy and happiness.
Maureen has been a pleasure to deal with and we thank
her sincerely for her openness and honesty and all her
valuable feedback. We trust that her prize, her chosen
rug from the Celtic Design Collection, will always
remind her of her trips to Ireland and bring back many
fond memories. Perhaps we will meet Maureen on her next
trip to Ireland.
